YMI 221 Ministry to Youth (3 credits)

Course Description

This introductory youth ministry course addresses the philosophy, strategy, principles, methods, resources and theology of effective ministry in the local church and Christian youth organizations.

Learning Results

By the end of the course the student should:
• be able to describe dimensions of select models of youth ministry;
• be able to apply theological premises to concrete ministry situations;
• be able to apply developmental theory to programming and teaching situations;
• be able to describe basic principles of biblical and healthy youth ministry;
• be able to acquire resources in the various components of youth ministry;
• be able to articulate a philosophy of youth ministry;
• be able to value adolescents as loved by God and part of God’s kingdom.
• be able to experience compassion for the needs and struggles of adolescents.


Learning Documentation

This course consists of 14 Insight Sheets, 3 major papers, and two exams.

Learning Evaluation

Each assignment is worth between 10 and 200 points, and each exam is worth 150 points, for a total of 925 points possible.
